Powell Property Management Announces Village Green Care Facility

Local Owners Monte and Diane Powell Working to Achieve Full-Service Vision
for Federal Way Seniors

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. (Nov. 17, 2017) – Powell Property Management, owner and manager of the Village Green Retirement Campus in Federal Way since 1996, has announced plans to break ground on a new memory care facility on the Village Green Retirement Campus in Federal Way. Construction is expected to start in mid-2018 and be completed in 2019.  

Situated on 20 acres and located at 35419 1^st Avenue South, Village Green Memory Care will be a 64-bed, two-story building that will blend with the existing campus. It will provide services and care for people living with Alzheimer’s and other memory-related impairments. The building design is in its early stages, and an architect has yet to be named.

“As part of our 20+ years of experience at Village Green, and at our Daystar retirement and assisted living community in West Seattle, we’re seeing an increased need for specialized services in memory care. Adding a campus that provides specialized dementia care services enables our residents to age in place, and stay in their home,“ said Jan Wieder, Executive Vice President for Powell Property Management. “Federal Way is growing significantly, and Village Green will now be even better situated to serve residents’ needs.”

Village Green recently began construction on four cottages that provide residents more independent living and a full range of amenities. Construction of the cottages is expected to be completed by the end of 2017, and 10 additional cottages and a community gathering space will be added in 2018.

Said Kim Salas, Executive Director of Village Green Retirement Campus, “Village Green serves more than 200 residents and employs 60 people. With the addition of the cottages, gathering facility and memory care building, we are truly achieving Monte and Diane Powell’s vision of a full-service community for Federal Way seniors. To address our growth, we anticipate adding 50 employees, including program directors, nurses, nurse technicians, and food service and maintenance employees.

As Federal Way residents for nearly 60 years, Monte and Diane Powell purchased the land for Village Green in 1961 with plans for a senior community. The first phase was built in 1996, and additional phases in 2000 and 2007. The Powells have a deep commitment to the community, including with their nonprofit PowellsWood Garden, located in Dash Point and promoting learning opportunities for the local student population.
